PARIS

Arrived in Paris early morning May 26th at the Charles de Gaulle Airport. Our hotel, the Libertel Montmartre Duperre, was located minutes from the Moulin Rouge and the Montmartre art district. This gave us an opportunity to walk up the hill and lunch on the square in the center of all the artists. Walking the narrow streets and enjoying the Parisian life style.

The Moulin Rouge is located on a busy street that caters to the risqué side of life, with many shops and cafes.

Early on the 27th we made our way south through the countryside to the city of Lyon. Along the way we passed a number of beautiful castles/forts which had protected the area.

Lyon/Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon)

There were many shops and restaurants available to the visitor.

Do you notice the dog sitting in the open window above the restaurant door?

The French have built many doorways off the main streets, that lead to small courtyards. These tend to lead the tourists into them as they promise a very special view of the buildings and they are also nice and cool.

La Cathédrale Saint-Jean built in the 12th century.

You can never know what you will see in these cities.

These are miniatures, seen through the shop window.

Turn a corner and there is a street full of cafes.

Puppet shows are still given in France.

Orange

Hôtel Lou Cigaloun, lobby, Orange, France.

The narrow streets had room for one car at a time.

The arch de triumph is amazing. It was built around 27 b.c. It is located just outside Orange.

The photo of Donna was taken next to ruins below. they are directly behind this photographer.

The Roman theater was being repaired when we were there but it was still in great shape.

The is a tree lined driveway about 1000 feet long.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

On day three we traveled to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, where they have a huge flea and antique market.

The vegetables were fresh from the garden.

This scene was typical in this small town.

The vendors line the walkway on the right.

One of my favorite photographs.

Avignon

Avignon, France, the capital of Prvence is home to the Palace of the Popes, the Saint Benezet bridge, and many Roman/gothic buildings. http://www.virtourist.com/europe/avignon/01.htm

The was a pottery fair going on when we were there so we checked it all out. Bringing home several pieces.

You have to think fast as you walk around. Looking at the center you can see a funiculaire (cable car) going between the buildings. You do not realize it is there until you see the car go speeding by.

Some narrow streets have been paved and turned into pedestrian walkways.

Some people take the time to make their balconies stand out in the town.

This carousal is double decked, something I have never seen before.

This store actually had plants growing out of the face of the building.

The tree lined roads were fun to drive upon.
